Turf Maintenance

Levee turf maintenance progress across the system

The maintenance plan

Routine mowing across 3,633 acres of levee turf

SLFPA-East maintains 3,633 acres of levee turf across 14 zonesin three levee districts. Mowing targets vary by zone based on size, location, and operating conditions. This dashboard shows monthly progress against those targets using a simple Green / Amber / Red status, as defined in the “How to read the zone cards” section below.

Operational Note — June 2026

Recent rainfall has reduced the number of workable mowing days across portions of the system. For safety and turf protection, mowing may be delayed when levee slopes, access roads, or work areas are saturated. SLFPA-East is using additional crews and overtime, including scheduled off-day work, to recover production where conditions allow.

The dashboard will continue to show actual progress against monthly mowing targets. Status colors are not adjusted for weather impacts, but operational notes will be provided when conditions materially affect monthly progress.

How to read the zone cards

Each card shows how much of the zone's monthly mowing target has been completed in July 2026. The bar fills with cumulative acres mowed against the monthly target (zone acres × cycles per month). The dark tick marks where Cycle 1 should land for zones running more than once per month.

The mowing status reflects progress against the monthly mowing target for each zone. It is an operational production indicator and does not, by itself, indicate a deficiency in the flood protection system. Weather, saturated ground conditions, site access, safety considerations, equipment availability, and other operating conditions may affect daily mowing production. When those conditions materially affect monthly progress, SLFPA-East may provide an operational note explaining the cause and recovery actions.

  • On pace — at or above 90% of monthly target
  • At risk — 80 to 89% of monthly target
  • Behind — under 80% of monthly target

Use the Cycle pace %toggle above the cards to switch each bar between acres completed and the percentage of the monthly cutting goal completed — the same figure that sets each zone's status.
